Emerging Team to Australia

Parthiv Patel, the former Indian wicketkeeper, will lead an Indian side to tour Australia for the Emerging players tournament, to be held from July 14 while Jaydev Shah, who led Saurashtra to the Ranji one-day title, will captain another second-string side to Israel.

The bulk of both the teams comprise players who caught the eye during the ongoing Indian Premier League. Chennai's S Badrinath will be Parthiv's deputy in a side that contains Shikhar Dhawan, Abhishek Nayar and Manpreet Gony - all high on the IPL charts.

Consistent domestic performances have also been rewarded. Mohnish Parmar, the offspinner from Gujarat, and Rakesh Dhriv, the left-arm spinner from Sautashtra, will travel to Israel. Amit Mishra had a good time in the IPL but he was already in the reckoning after a prolific season for Haryana in the Ranji Trophy.

However, a few consistent domestic performers missed out - Aakash Chopra and Niraj Patel had a fine run with the bat while Sudeep Tyagi and Ashraf Makda missed out despite sterling efforts with the ball. Tyagi, though, might have been ignored because of an injury.

Other team which made it to semi is Delhi Dardevils,who started with bang played superb cricket is starting made to semis with help of Rajasthan. They must thank Rajasthan for defeating Mumbai Indians to give them semis pass. They won 7 matches out of 14 they played,they looked like not making to semis but thanks to Rajasthan they got it, Their strong point is their opening three batsmen who are in great touch and if they play well then chances of Delhi Wining matches increases.Their bowling to look in great touch,Umar Gul under command of Glen Mcgrath bowls superbly. Their main concern is their middle order which lets them down.

The match which had gone to last ball would have gone Mumbai Indians way or to bowl out if Jayasuriya wouldnt have fumble during the throw send to him by the fielder but a fumble change the faith of his faith as Mumbai lost a consecutive third match nail-biter to leave their semi-final hopes hanging by a thread.Rajasthan Royals needed 43 runs of all three overs to protect their 100% home ground win records played well as youngsters Niraj Patel and Ravindra Jadeja kept their nerve and won the match in last ball. Mumbai Indians didnt able to keep their nerve and so lost the match even having experienced bowlers which can bowl superb in such pressure lost the patience and result in front of our eyes.

The real advantage is to Delhi Daredevils who are now holding third postion and today’s defeat of Mumbai Indians confirmed their spot in last 4. Now Mumbai Indians can hope that Deccan Chargers to break their home jinx and win against Chennai Super Kings. If thie happens then their chances gets a birghter and then they will have to win the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on 28th may.

After winning the toss Rajasthan Royals Skipper Shane Warne elected to field first . Their bowling looked fully focused from starting as they restrict Sanath and Sachin tendulkar to hit big scores. Thats why Mumbai Indians manage to make 46 from 8 overs but after that Sanath and Sachin started to play some shots and in just 3 overs got 25 runs and it looked like that both will fire more fireworks but Sanath gave his wicket away on Trivedi bowling . Mumbai lost their first wicket on 71. Soon Sachin Tendulkar too departed and rate of scoring got a bit on slower. Due to slow rate of scoring the pressure built on Mumbai Indians batsmen and they started losing their patience . Uthappa,Pollock and Smith got out without scoring some valuable runs on bpard and Mumbai struggling badly at 119 for 7 in 19 overs and it looked like that Mumbai will able to score near to 130 but Last over of inning turned out to be helpful for Mumbai Indians as they got 25 runs of it and they ale to post 145 runs on board which was a modest total. Yogesh Takawale made 24 from 8 balls.Sohail Tanvir was awesome in bowling as he got 4=14 in his 4 overs and was awarded Purple Cap.

Needing a modest total of 146 runs ,Rajasthan Royals start was not good as they lost Kamran Akmal in 4th over. Inspite of losing Kamran Akmal they were looking good in chase but superb bowling by Fernando and raje changed the match wy to Mumbai Indians. in quick spam Rajasthan lost 4 more wickets and were struggling at 77 for 5 wickets down. But super partnership between N Patel and R Jadeja made the match equally poised up but was not able to score freely and match went to last 3 overs where they reuired 42 runs to score. With more than 5 overs on field Patel and Jadeja started playing their shots and match went to last ball where they clinch a superb victory. N Patel scored 40 from just 29 runs . The sixth wicket partnership between Patel and Jadeja was the critical point of match,where they both added 69 runs of just 48 balls.

The final match of the IPL’s first season for the Kolkata Knight Riders provided Sourav Ganguly and his team a chance of get their pride back in front of their home crowd. A sparkling innings from Ganguly and tornado innings from Gul helped them utilize this chance and give their home crowd to cheer. They won a exciting Sunday blast match by 3 wickets .

This win upset Kings XI Punjab’ winning momentum ahead of the knockout stages. After winning the toss Kings XI Punjab happily decided to bat first ,Ganguly too wanted to field and he got it. The start of Kings XI Punjab was ok but not good as the lost Hopes in 4th over as he got lbw by Gul who today looked superb in bowling as well as batting and it looked like that Kings XI Punjab may struggle today but another awesome partnership between Kumar Sangakkara and Shaun Marsh made the crowd to sit with sadness on face. They both played superb,Marsh got superb 40 runs whereas Kumar Sangakkara keeping his good form going added awesome 64 runs . Yuvraj too added some valuable runs as he played some awesome shouts and added 27 in quick . But superb bowling by Kolkata in last over overs especially by Umar Gul stopped Kings XI punjab to 174 in 20 overs. This total looked as noone has scored this much in any innings and it looked like Kolkata will suffer. Kolkata chasing 175 started decently and added 45 runs from just 5 overs and it looked like the match will be going Kolkata way but two wickets in flash just changed the course.

Kolkata Middle order again failed and Kolkata struggled 106/6 and it looked like that Kolkata will lose the match by big margin but unexpected partnership between Ganguly and Gul just Changed the course. They both added 48 from just 19 balls and made the match interersted. Gul played a valuable knock of 24 from just 11 balls whereas Ganguly played exceptionally well and added 86 form just 53 balls and this partnership took Kolkata too a exciting win. Gul for his all round performance was awarded man of match.

Indian Premier League - 51st match Deccan Chargers v Bangalore Royal Challengers 2007/08 season Played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad, on 25 May 2008 - day/night (20-over match).

The home jinx of Deccan Chargers seems to had stick with them,as Bangalore Royal Challengers powered to a five-wicket win to register their fourth win of the IPL and assure themselves of seventh place.Chasing a modest total of 166,Bangalore Royal Challengers start was slow but superb innings from Misbah-ul-Haq, Rahul Dravid, Cameron White and B Akhil ensured they got home with one over to spare.

Deccan Chargers who after winning the toss elected to bat first started strongly and it looked like a perfect start which should have come in other matches they played. Herschelle Gibbs and Adam Gilchrist added 101 in just 11.2 overs and it looked like that they both will take Deccan Chargers to 200 plus total but a great stumping from Goswami on Anil Kumble changed the way and Deccan Chargers lost the way as they only manage to get 165 as they lost nine for 56 in eight overs. It was awesome bowling by Bangalore to stop Deccan Chargers to a modest total.

Bangalore Chasing was not easy as they lost the wickets in regular intervals but Dravid was playing the role of wall as he kept the hunt on . He got help from Misbah-ul-Haq, Cameron White and B Akhil but as soon he got out it started to look that match can go in favour of Deccan chargers but a hair rising performanc by Akhil cleared that Deccan home jinx dont get broke and helped Royal win this exciting clash by 5 wickets and make Bangalore proud .The match was just a formality as the result didnt changes the IPL setting but it was interesting one more than the other matches which results matter.

Dinesh Karthik Stunning innings of 56 helped Delhi Survived in race of making to Semis. Dinesh Firing was very helpful for Delhi when they were struggling at 9 for 4, Karthik blitzed a classy 32-ball 56 to take Delhi past the Mumbai Indians 176 with one ball to spare.

The Match turned out to be a very exciting one and it got tense full in last moments but it was Dinesh Karthik who kept the Nerve calm. and due to this superb perfomance made him man of match .

Indian Premier League - 49th match Chennai Super Kings v Rajasthan Royals 2007/08 season Played at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai, on 24 May 2008 - day/night (20-over match)

A highscoring thriller in which nearly 412 runs was scored went Rajasthan Royals way as they defeated Chennai Super Kings to get tenth win of IPL and further solid their position at the top of the table. After Graeme Smith helped Rajasthan to 211, Chennai didnt gave the run chase but looked like getting it, thanks largely to Albie Morkel’s 40-ball 71. In the end, though, his effort went in vain, leaving Chennai to do more work to make it to top 4.

After winning the toss in hot and humid afternoon ,Rajasthan Royals elected to bat first . Smith’s sparkling innings of 91 from just 51 balls and his stunning 127-run opening-wicket stand with Swapnil Asnodkar, put Rajasthan firmly in control at the halfway stage but Chennai came back strongly after getting Swapnil Asnodkar in 12th over. After that Rajasthan speed slow a bit but with Akmal sparkling innings of 50 runs helped Rajasthan scored 211 for 5 in 20 overs.

Needing 212 to get , Chennai start was not good as they lost Stephen Flemming in second over as he got run out due to superb fielding by Sohali Tanvir. But a stuning partnership between PA Patel and Suresh Raina helpd Chennai stay in hunt and it looked like that they will get it. PA Patel got a superb 50 and it looked like that he will help Chennai get the target but Superb bowling by Shane Warne ,Sohail Tanvir keep a check on Chennai Super Kings speeding scoring. But it was A Morkel show which kept the match alive but in end overs Chennai lost the way and was only able to score 201/7 . Sohail Tanvir was impressive with bowling as he got 3/33 and was awarded Purple as he became highest wicket taker. A Morkel scored 71 from 40balls and was awarded man of match. Dhoni didnt look in touch as he only got 12 from 8 balls he faced.

It was the perfect farewell for Bravo who today played his last IPL match of this season and will be leaving for West Indies later in Night to join with the team and play against Australia in 3 test match starting on 22nd May 2008. Mumbai got their sixth win a row and they are the only team to get six win in a row in IPL.Bravo was the star of the match he made 30 runs from 17 balls helping Mumbai Indians get 178/7 in 20 overs and took 3 wickets which helped them to stop Deccan Chargers for 153/7 in 208 overs

For the losers, its a nightmare that gets longer with every match as they are yet to post a win at home, and after being pushed out of the race for top positions, they are now being made to look pedestrian, a sad situation for a team with so much talent.

Adam won the toss and elected to field first.Mumbai got a flying start and made 39 runs from 3 overs. But Sanath gave his wicket soon and Mumbai lost the storming run rate in few overs. Shoaib Akhtar and RP Singh bowled superbly and stopped Mumbai from scoring with storming rate. Deccan bowled supebly and took wickets of Mumbai Indians and made it looked like that Mumbai will struggle to score more than 150 but bravo played a storming inning to give Mumbai Indians a good momentum in last overs and helped it reach 178/7 .

Deccan start was pretty much lucky as Adam got a life saver in starting of inning but it didnt helped as Sahid Afrid got caught when playing agressively. Then Fenredo got chance to get hattrick as he got Adam and Rohit in consecutive delieveries. Bravo took looked and took 3 wickets. It was Venu and Teja who kept the chances alive but they were not able to give Deccan win as Deccan Only manage to get 153/7 in 20 overs.

Indian Premier League - 41st match Kolkata Knight Riders v Chennai Super Kings 2007/08 season Played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on 18 May 2008 - day/night (20-over match).

For second consecutive days Weather was the decider for an exciting match which would have ended on either side. The weather spoiled the fund and it forced D?L method to chose a winner . Chennai was a bit lucky as they manage to score more than par score when a severe dust storm descended upon the Eden Gardens, and the rains that followed ensured there was no chance for the match to resume. Chennai got two points and their total now 14 and are looking to solid their position whereas Kolkata Knight Rider finds tough as they only have 10 points from 11 matches that they played and their all remaining matches are against tough teams.

Winning the toss in hot and humid afternoon,Kolkata decided to bat first .Their start was not good at all as they lost Hafeez and Ganguly for cheap and it looked like that Kokata will have the same dreadful expeience as they got against Mumdai but it was Das and Butt who both resuced the innings and keep it ticking and it looked like that Kolkata scoring more than 170 plus but Nitini superb bowling got Kolkata two wickets in two bowls and gave Ntini chane to get hattrick but he wasnt able to get it . Chennai superb bowling in last over stopped Kolkata for 149/5 in 20 overs. Butt scored 73 from 54 balls and this is the best score for him in Twenty20 cricket.

Kolkata not able to score 170 plus thought to put pressure over Chennai batting but was not able to do as their strike bowlers got big hits from the Patel and Flemming in starting . There were few chances which were drop by Kolkata to get the first wicket and Chennai was in good position till 8 overs as they scored 55/0 . Suddenly the weather changed the storm stopped the match . The match was not able to resume after that and Chennai got bit lucky on D/L method and got 3 runs win. Flemming scored 32 from 20 balls and looked in great touch.

It will be a battle between two most agressive teams of IPL who thinks that they have to hit all balls to boundaries from first ball of Innings. one is lead by Virendra Sehwag for who there is only one saying that is if the day is on his side,the opposition will be in big trouble and other is lead by Yuvraj who is too aggressive player from nature.

The last time when both sides met Mumbai Indians lost by small margin of 6 runs in one of the more thrilling encounters of the IPL. Chennai at that stage were at top of the table and were going strong whereas Mumbai was struggling and were missing Sachin.
